Drone Attack In Sudan, 6 Bangladeshi Peacekeepers Killed
Of the injured, 4 are said to be in critical condition and all the injured are from Bangladesh
A drone attack in Sudan killed 6 Bangladeshi peacekeepers.
According to the UN mission, the attack was carried out on Saturday at the UN mission base in the Kordofan region of Sudan.
Six Bangladeshi peacekeepers were killed on the spot while another 6 were injured in the drone attack. The condition of 4 of the injured is said to be critical, and all the injured are from Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s interim leader, Mohammad Yunus, strongly condemned the incident and demanded that the UN provide immediate and all possible emergency assistance to the affected personnel. He also expressed condolences to the families of the deceased personnel.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also condemned the attack on peacekeepers, saying that targeting UN personnel is unacceptable and that such attacks may amount to war crimes.
The Sudanese army has blamed the rebel group Rapid Support Force (RSF) for the attack. However, there has been no official response from the RSF to the incident.
It should be noted that a fierce civil war has been going on between the Sudanese army and the RSF for more than two years, as a result of which thousands of people have been killed and millions have been displaced.
