Israeli Military To Be Monitored For Sexual Abuse Of Palestinians In Gaza; UN
There is solid evidence of multiple incidents of Israeli military abusing Palestinian prisoners, Antonio Guterres
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has issued a strong warning to Israel over the increasing number of cases of sexual abuse by military personnel in Gaza.
According to the World News Agency, Antonio Guterres issued this warning in a letter to the Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said that we have credible evidence of Israeli soldiers engaging in sexual abuse of Palestinians.
Antonio Guterres added that Israeli armed forces and security forces have committed serious crimes such as sexual abuse of Palestinian prisoners.
Antonio Guterres’ letter was issued ahead of the UN’s annual report on sexual violence in armed conflicts.
The letter clearly states that the United Nations has received credible information about violations in several prisons, detention centers and a military base.
Antonio Guterres added that he is deeply concerned about reports of sexual violence against Palestinians, committed by the Israeli armed forces and security agencies.
The UN Secretary-General also expressed regret that UN observers were not given full access to the affected areas, which prevented complete data from being obtained.
Antonio Guterres added that despite this, the UN has consistently identified numerous cases of sexual violence with evidence.
He said that these cases of sexual violence against prisoners are a cause for concern and that I am adding Israeli forces to the monitoring list.
The UN has urged the Israeli government to investigate all cases of sexual violence and ensure its immediate end, and to inform the UN of its concrete measures.
Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon rejected Guterres’ accusations, saying they were baseless and based on biased sources.
Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon criticized the United Nations, saying that Antonio Guterres should focus on Hamas’ war crimes instead of making “false accusations” against Israel.
