World's Oldest Baby Born Through IVF In US
About 2 percent of babies in the US are born through IVF, report
OHIO: The world’s ‘oldest baby’ has been born in the US, born from an embryo stored under the reproductive process IVF almost 30 years ago.
According to a report by The Guardian, Thaddeus Daniel Pierce was born on July 26 in Ohio to Linze and Tim Pierce, who adopted the stored embryo and donated it by 62-year-old Linda Orchard 30 years ago.

The report said that in the early 1990s, Orchard and her then-husband resorted to IVF (in vitro fertilization) after difficulty conceiving, and in 1994, the process resulted in four embryos, one of which was transferred to Orchard and gave birth to a daughter, who is now 30 years old and has become the mother of a 10-year-old son, while the other three embryos were frozen and preserved.
Linze said that we did not do this thinking that we would break the record, but we just wanted one child and this fulfilled our wish.
IVF is a type of reproductive treatment in which eggs are obtained from a woman’s ovaries and fertilized with sperm in a laboratory. The embryos formed through this process are later transferred to the uterus, while these embryos can also be frozen and preserved for future use.
Linda Orchard, the embryo donor, got a divorce from her husband, after which she got legal status in this regard and after getting to know the process of donating the embryo, she decided to give it to someone else.
According to the report, this donation process is such that both the donor and the recipient have the consent to decide to donate the embryo, which is their legal right.
It was further stated that the donor, Orchard, wanted her embryo to be given to a white married Christian couple and accordingly the embryo was adopted by Linze and Tim Pierce.
Linze said that our baby was born with difficulty but now we are both fine, she is very calm and we cannot believe that we have this beautiful baby.
The other Linda Orchard said that when Linze sent me her pictures, I immediately realized that when my daughter was little, she looked exactly like her, then I took out my daughter’s album and compared the pictures and I was sure that the two children were siblings.
Reproductive specialist John Gordon, who performed the procedure, said that we have some guiding principles that every embryo should have a chance at life and that no embryo can develop into a healthy baby without being transferred to the mother’s womb.
According to the report, the rate of children born through IVF in the UK in 2000 was 1.3%, which has increased to 3.1% in 2023, and similarly, 11% of children born through this process among women aged 40 to 44 were born through this process, and 2000 was 4% and 0.5% of the UK birth rate.
The report further stated that about 2% of children are born through IVF in the US.
