Iranian -backed armed groups are preparing to attack US military bases in Iraq and possibly in Syria.
According to the report, a top US official said that the US intelligence and the military have obtained indications that show that the activities of pro -Iranian militias have increased significantly, and they are planning to target US interests.
The New York Times says these groups have not yet attacked any US installation, but the Iraqi government is trying to stop them so that tensions in the region do not increase further.
The progress has come at a time when the situation has been strained throughout the region after the US attacks on Iran’s nuclear installations. Iran has strongly reacted to the attacks, warning that retaliation will be done, but its time and method will decide Iran’s armed forces.
“The attack is a serious violation of international law, and Iran will respond to the aggression,” said Saeed Irwani, Iran’s permanent delegation to the United Nations.
