Taliban Flag In Moscow: Russia's Decision To Recognize The Government In Afghanistan
Russia has become the first country in the world to formally recognize the Taliban government in Afghanistan, and opponents of the Taliban are criticizing Russia over the move.
According to Russia’s official news agency, Putin decided to recognize the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan on Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s proposal, after which the Afghan embassy employees in Moscow came to the balcony of the building and raised the flag of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
The Taliban occupied Kabul and took power about four years ago during the withdrawal of foreign forces, including the US.
Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Matuqi says he hopes that Russia’s move will be an example for other countries. It should be remembered that other countries are reluctant to accept the Taliban government because of its strict Shariah laws and issues such as banning women’s education.
The Taliban government has said that it respects women’s rights under Afghanistan’s culture and Shariah laws.

Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Matuqi says Russia’s recognition of the Taliban government will begin a new era of ‘positive relations, mutual respect and constructive relations between the two countries.
The Russian Foreign Ministry, on the other hand, says the Russian government plans to work with Afghanistan in the areas of ‘energy, transportation, agriculture and infrastructure’ and will continue to support Kabul in the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking.

In 2021, Russia was one of the countries that did not close its embassy in Kabul at the time of the Taliban government.
Russia was the first country that signed an economic agreement with the Taliban government in 2022 and agreed to send oil, gas and wheat to Afghanistan.
In April this year, Russia deleted the Taliban’s name from its list of terrorist organizations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin described the Taliban as their “ally” in the fight against terrorism in July last year. Taliban representatives have been visiting Moscow since 2018.
However, relations between the two countries have been complicated in the past. Russia was part of the Soviet Union, which invaded Afghanistan in 1979, after which 15,000 Russians were killed in a nine -year war.
The Soviet Union tried to establish its own supported government in Kabul, which led to opposition worldwide.
“Even today, Russia’s political interference and support for the Taliban are a link to this devastation and all this is under the umbrella of diplomacy.”

In the past, Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta, who worked as a national security adviser in Afghanistan, termed Russia’s decision as “tragic”: “This is just the beginning, in the absence of any major resistance, other countries will take steps like Russia.”
In 2021, the United Nations imposed strong sanctions on Afghanistan and frozen Afghanistan’s $ 9 billion assets.
The UN said that sanctions on women in Afghanistan are an example of ‘gender discrimination’ and reports of punishment for former government officials in the country are coming out.

Other countries have not yet acknowledged the Taliban government, but the German Interior Ministry wants to work with Afghanistan to send the criminal Afghans to their country.
Earlier, after the Taliban government came, Germany had withdrawn the decision to deport Afghans.
