Saudi Arabia Executes 17 People in Just 3 Days
The majority of those executed are drug dealers
Saudi Arabia is rapidly implementing its “zero tolerance” policy on drugs, as evidenced by the execution of 17 defendants in three days.
According to Arab media, two Saudi citizens were sentenced to death on Monday for “terrorism-related crimes”.
Earlier, on Saturday and Sunday, a total of 15 people were executed, including one for cocaine and 13 for marijuana trafficking.
According to Amnesty International, in June 2025, Saudi Arabia executed 46 people. Of these, 37 were in drug cases.
The Saudi government says that the death penalty is only given in cases in which the accused has gone through all legal appeals and that these sentences are aimed at maintaining security in the country and preventing the spread of drugs.
Since the beginning of 2025, 239 people have been executed, of which 161 were sentenced to death for drug-related crimes alone. Among them, 136 were foreigners.
It should be remembered that in 2022, 81 people were sentenced to death on terrorism charges in a single day.
Similarly, in 2016, the mass execution of 47 people in Saudi Arabia shocked the international community.
It should be noted that these sentences are the result of Saudi Arabia’s “war on drugs” launched in 2023 and these people are now being sentenced who were arrested a year or two ago.
