Russia's Major Airstrike On Ukraine, 18 People Killed
The European Union mission and British Council buildings were also hit during the attack
Russia carried out a heavy airstrike on the Ukrainian capital Kiev and other cities overnight, killing at least 18 people, including four children.
According to Ukrainian officials, the dead include children aged 2, 14 and 17. The European Union mission and British Council buildings were also hit during the attack, over which the European Union and Britain have summoned Russian ambassadors to their capitals.
The Ukrainian Air Force said that Russia launched 598 drones and 31 missiles in a single night. Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat described it as “one of the largest attacks” on Ukraine.
The Russian Defense Ministry has claimed that the attacks targeted Ukrainian military-industrial enterprises and air bases. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attack was a deliberate massacre of civilians.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also reacted strongly, saying that the Kremlin was indiscriminately killing civilians, children and women, and now the European Union was also being targeted. She urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to come to the negotiating table.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that the British Council building had also been affected by the Russian attack, while British Foreign Secretary David Lammy summoned the Russian ambassador and strongly condemned the attacks.
