Not Occupying Gaza, But Liberating It From Hamas; Israeli Prime Minister
Gaza will be disarmed and a peaceful civil administration will be established; Netanyahu’s statement
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said in his latest statement that Israel is not going to occupy Gaza, but is planning to liberate it from Hamas.
Netanyahu’s statement came after the Israeli cabinet approved the proposal to control Gaza yesterday, which was opposed by many Western countries.
In a joint statement by the foreign ministers of Australia, Germany, Italy, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, rejecting a possible Israeli military operation and emphasizing a two-state solution for Palestine. These countries made it clear that they are committed to lasting peace in the region.
On the other hand, the Palestinian resistance organization Hamas strongly condemned the Israeli cabinet’s decision, calling it a war crime. A Hamas spokesman said that Israel will have to bear the consequences of this campaign and that occupying Gaza will not be so easy.
Netanyahu added in his statement that Gaza would be demilitarized and a peaceful civilian administration would be established, which would not include the Palestinian Authority, Hamas or any terrorist organization. He said that this move would be helpful in the release of Israeli hostages.
The statement reflects a new strategy by Israel regarding the resolution of the conflict, which is facing mixed reactions internationally. While Western countries are talking about a two-state solution, Israel is pushing for a change in the administration of Gaza on its own terms.
