Lebanese Revolutionary George Abdullah to Be Freed by France After 40-Year Sentence

PARIS: French court has ruled that Lebanese citizen George Ibrahim Abdullah will be released after 40 years of imprisonment, provided he leaves France.
The Paris Appellant Court approved his release on July 25, after which he will be deported to Lebanon.
George Abdullah is a former head of Lebanon’s armed revolutionary organization. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1987.
He was accused of killing US troops in Paris in Paris in 1982, and the assassination of Israeli diplomat Yakov Barcemantov, and the assassination of US Consul General Robert Hoom in the French city of Strasbourg in 1984.
The US Department of Justice and the French prosecution opposed their release for many years, and their eight -time release had already been rejected.
At a February hearing, the court also said that George Abdullah should take steps to compensate his families.
Currently, there has been no comment from Abdullah’s lawyer, the Lebanese government or the US Embassy.
