Iran retaliates against US attack; Parliament approves closure of Strait of Hormuz
Iran’s parliament has approved the closure of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz in response to the US targeting of nuclear facilities.
According to a report by Iranian Press TV, Iranian parliament member Esmail Kosovari said that the Shura Council (Iranian parliament) has agreed to close the Strait of Hormuz, which is important for the world’s energy trade, in response to US aggression and the silence of the international community.
Esmail Kosovari, a member of the Shura Council’s Committee for National Security and Foreign Policy, said that the parliamentarians agree on the decision to close the Strait of Hormuz, but the final decision will be made by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
It should be noted that the Strait of Hormuz is located in the Persian Gulf and is of great importance for global trade, where it is estimated that 20 percent of the world’s oil trade is carried out through this sea route.
Reports said that it is estimated that 20 percent of the world’s oil trade, which consists of 17 million barrels per day, passes through the Strait of Hormuz, which makes the Strait of Hormuz important for the world’s energy.
It is feared that the price of oil is likely to increase by 80 percent in the week before the closure of the Strait of Hormuz because alternative routes will be too expensive.
