Iran Claims 21,000 Suspects Arrested During 12-Day War With Israel
41% of arrests were based on public information
Tehran: Iran has claimed that 21,000 suspects have been arrested across the country during the recent 12-day war with Israel.
According to Iranian media, the arrest campaign was launched after the Israeli airstrike on June 13, in which Iranian security and police forces carried out a nationwide crackdown.
An Iranian police spokesman said that 41% of the arrests were based on public information, while more than 2,000 illegal immigrants were among those detained.
According to the spokesman, 261 people were arrested on suspicion of spying for the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad and 172 people were arrested on charges of making videos without government permission.
It should be noted that Iran has sentenced several people to death in the past for spying for Israel.
