Grandfather Arrests Himself To Visit Prisoner Grandson
The court sentenced the grandfather to 15 months, of which 5 months are currently suspended
This shocking incident took place in the French region of Guadeloupe, where the grandfather got himself arrested to visit his grandson.
The 69-year-old grandfather is a former firefighter with no previous criminal record. The grandfather robbed a supermarket near a police station. After robbing the supermarket, the grandfather waited there so that he could be arrested. The goal was to go to prison and visit his imprisoned grandson.
During the robbery, the grandfather asked for cash and also took a piece of cheese and a bottle of wine. Later, the police caught him while he was walking towards the parking lot after looting in a manner that seemed to deliberately intend to get arrested.
The court sentenced the grandfather to 15 months, of which 5 months are currently suspended. Along with this, he will also have to pay compensation to the victims of the damage, undergo psychological treatment and be banned from going near the supermarket.
However, the court recognized his right to legally visit his grandson in the prison’s meeting room.
The grandfather has taken this step because he considers the safety and care of his grandson a priority and he was not able to help his grandson through legal means or formal contacts, so he had to take this extraordinary step.
