London: Google is introducing a system with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) that will estimate the age of users through browsing data, even determining the age of users who have not told Google about their age.
Google will use this system for search and YouTube data protection, initially this system is being introduced in the European Union where under the digital safety rules the platform is required to take steps to protect minor users from harmful content.
In this regard, Google said that instead of relying only on the content provided by users, various signals and other meta data will be used to accurately estimate the age to determine whether a user should be shown restricted content or not.
Privacy advocates argue that the move will be flawed and have raised questions about its transparency and user consent.
Google claims that the changes are in line with regulatory requirements and that the system will help protect underage users from inappropriate content.
