The two-day meeting is attended by heads of 20 countries
At the ongoing Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting in Tianjin, China, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the establishment of a development bank for the organization’s member countries.
The meeting was attended by several world leaders, including Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
In his address, the Chinese President stated that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is advancing under the principles of mutual trust and has now become a “tree of prosperity.” He said that member countries should take full advantage of opportunities for cooperation in trade, economy, and various fields.
Xi Jinping stressed that expanding trade and communication links is the need of the hour for a common, prosperous future. He said that China is determined to play an important role in the social and economic development of member countries and that the prosperity of the people is not possible without practical measures.
The two-day meeting is being attended by heads of 20 countries, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will present Pakistan’s position and emphasize increasing cooperation and stability in the region.
