Kalsoom Akbari, who is being called the “Black Widow” in Iranian media, confessed in court to killing her 11 husbands over a period of 22 years to seize money and property.
According to prosecutors, the series began in 2000. Akbari usually preyed on old and sick men, gradually poisoning them with diabetes medicine, stimulants, and sometimes industrial alcohol after marrying them.
These deaths of frail husbands were generally considered to be natural causes, due to which Kulsoom Akbari could not be suspected and she continued to commit horrific incidents one after another and distribute money.
However, Kulsoom Akbari’s last victim was a man named Azizullah Babai, who died in 2023 and Azizullah’s son expressed suspicion on his stepmother. When the police investigated him rigorously, Kulsoom Akbari confessed to all the crimes.
According to court documents, Kulsoom Akbari had tried to poison another man, but he survived. He was also charged with attempted murder.
In court, the families of the four victims demanded the death penalty for the accused. So far, more than 45 people have become plaintiffs in the case, who have made various allegations against the woman.
Akbari is charged with 11 murders and one attempted murder. He is expected to be sentenced soon. The case has attracted intense attention from Iranian and international media.
