Beijing Demands End to US Political Manipulation Over Hong Kong National Security Law
Hong Kong — The Commissioner’s Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Saturday strongly condemned the US White House’s decision to extend the so-called “national emergency with respect to Hong Kong” for a sixth consecutive year, calling it a politically motivated move that grossly interferes in China’s internal affairs.
In a statement released via the Office’s official WeChat account, the spokesperson decried the US move as a “hegemonic” act of political manipulation, accusing Washington of weaponizing economic tools and distorting facts to discredit the HKSAR’s legitimate national security legislation.
National Security Law Restores Order, Boosts Economy
The spokesperson defended Hong Kong’s National Security Law and the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, describing them as legitimate, necessary, and aligned with international norms. Since their enactment, the spokesperson said, social order has been restored, the business environment has improved, and foreign investment has surged, with the international community recognizing these developments.
According to the statement, Hong Kong now ranks first among the world’s freest economies, remains one of the top three international financial centers, and leads globally in air cargo volume. The city also ranks third in global foreign direct investment inflows, with record-breaking capital raised this year.
“HKSAR has become a hub of investment and business opportunities,” the spokesperson said, adding that talent competitiveness has returned to the global top 10, and Hong Kong has re-entered the top tier of international competitiveness rankings.
US Accused of Double Standards and Legal Hypocrisy
The Chinese Foreign Ministry’s office accused the US of “trampling the rule of law,” “distorting basic facts,” and applying double standards by repeatedly linking Hong Kong to a “national emergency” in a move designed to justify ongoing unilateral sanctions and policy interference.
“This political manipulation reveals the absurdity, hypocrisy, and hegemonic mindset of the US,” the spokesperson stated. “Its actions go against the tide of history and the principles of international relations.”
The spokesperson reiterated that external interference will not shake Beijing or Hong Kong’s determination to safeguard national security, nor will it halt HKSAR’s steady transition from stability to prosperity. The spokesperson urged the US to abandon illusions, face reality, and respect China’s sovereignty, international law, and the “One Country, Two Systems” framework.
HKSAR Government Condemns US Allegations
Separately, the HKSAR government also issued a firm rebuttal to the US extension of the “national emergency,” calling the move a baseless smear campaign. In a statement posted to its official website, the government said the US was “wantonly slandering Hong Kong’s lawful efforts to prevent and punish acts endangering national security.”
The HKSAR government demanded that the US immediately cease its interference, labeling it a violation of international law and basic norms governing international relations.
Beijing Signals Zero Tolerance for External Interference
As tensions persist between China and the US over strategic and ideological fronts, the latest condemnation underscores Beijing’s firm stance against foreign meddling in Hong Kong affairs. Both Beijing and the HKSAR government reaffirm that national security and legal sovereignty are non-negotiable — and that political pressure from foreign powers will not reverse the region’s trajectory of recovery and global engagement.
