A severe earthquake that struck Afghanistan’s Kunar province late last night caused devastation. According to initial reports, 800 people have been killed so far and over 3,000 people have been injured.
According to Afghan media outlet Tolo News, the epicenter of the earthquake was 8 kilometers underground in Jalalabad city, with a magnitude of 6. Five more aftershocks were also felt after the earthquake, with magnitudes ranging from 4.3 to 5.2.
The Afghan Disaster Management Authority said that the highest loss of life occurred in Nurgal, Sawkai, Watapur, Manogi, and Chapa Dara districts, where several villages have been completely buried. It is feared that hundreds of people are still trapped under the rubble.

Rescue operations are underway, and teams from the Ministry of Defense, Interior, and Health have reached the spot. The injured are being transferred to Nangarhar Regional Hospital by helicopter.
The spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Zabihullah Mujahid, has instructed all authorities to use all their capabilities to save the lives of the victims.

The tremors of the earthquake were also felt in Nangarhar, Laghman, Kabul, and some areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Prime Minister expresses grief over the earthquake in Afghanistan and Pakistan
Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of life and property due to the recent earthquake in different parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The Prime Minister wrote on his X (Twitter) timeline on Monday that this devastating earthquake in eastern Afghanistan was felt not only in Kabul but also in many parts of Pakistan, including Islamabad. He said that hundreds of people died in Afghanistan as a result of the earthquake, while many villages were destroyed.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the victims and their families and said that the people and government of Pakistan stand with the Afghan people in this difficult time. He also assured of providing all possible assistance.
