The Iranian Parliament Approves a Bill to Suspend Cooperation with the IAEA
The final approval of the bill will now grant Iran’s Supreme National Security Council
Iran has approved a bill to suspend all cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), taking a major step in response to attacks on its nuclear installations by the United States and Israel.
According to Iranian media, the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Parliament approved the bill after a lengthy meeting on Monday, confirmed by Ibrahim Rizai, spokesman for the committee.
The spokesman said that 222 votes were cast in favor of the bill, no member opposed, and only one member voted. The final approval of the bill will now be granted Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
The move has been taken at a time when US B-2 bomber planes carried out air strikes on Iranian nuclear installations in Fardo, Natins and Isfahan. US President Donald Trump claimed after the attacks that “Iran’s nuclear capability has been completely destroyed” and Iran will no longer be able to make nuclear weapons. However, Iranian officials say they have protected 400 kilograms of enriched uranium.
