America's $3.6 Trillion Debt; Government Appeals to Citizens for Help in Paying It Off
America’s debt is increasing by $55,000 almost every second
The US government is appealing to citizens through its official website Pay.gov to assist the government in borrowing national debt through an online payment platform Paypal or Venmo.
Debt to the United States has reached about $ 36.7 trillion. The Department of Finance has set up a section called Gifts to Reduce the Public Debt on Pay.gov where people can pay with credit/debit card or bank transfer through PAPAL or Vanmo.
The program began in 1996, under which people have donated up to $ 67.3 million so far, which is a very small amount compared to the debt scale.
In 2024, about $ 27 million was given by the citizens to repay the government, while about $ 434,500 was given in the first five months of 2025.
It should be noted that the pace of debt to the United States is very fast. According to statistics, debt is increasing by US $ 55,000 every second.
Economists have warned that if immediate concrete steps are not taken at the government level, the United States will soon suffer a financial crisis.
Many consumers on social media have termed the government’s move a joke, one user said that the government gets 40 % from the earnings of every citizen with the same tax and other policies, and it is being asked to help citizens to take out the debt.
