US and Israel boycott UN World Conference
New York: At a World Conference on the Palestinian issue in the United Nations, Pakistan strongly reaffirmed the support of Palestinians, demanding that Palestine be given full membership of the United Nations.
In his address, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar called for immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, providing humanitarian aid and elements involved in war crimes.
Addressing a conference organized by Saudi Arabia and France, Ishaq Dar welcomed France’s decision to recognize the Palestinian state, saying it was time for the international community to recognize the right of the Palestinian people.
He said that the ongoing massacre in Gaza is a clear violation of international law, crimes against humanity should be stopped immediately.
Ishaq Dar said that the problem has been solved for the past 75 years and that it is not yet resolved shows the collective failure of the international community.
He emphasized that the UN should give full membership to the Palestinian state so that real progress can be made towards resolving the problem. Ishaq Dar said that Pakistan would continue its diplomatic support for the legitimate rights and independence of Palestine.
UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres described the two -state solution in the inaugural address of the conference as the only viable way, saying that the destruction of Gaza was unbearable and that no justification could be justified.
French Foreign Minister Jean Noel Barot also termed the two -state solution as the only sustainable way for both Israel and Palestine, saying that ending the war in Gaza is essential for the peace of the entire region.
The United States and Israel, on the other hand, boycotted this global conference. US State Department spokeswoman Timi Bruce claimed that the conference was called inappropriate time and could hinder the peace process.
It should be remembered that the UN General Assembly decided to hold the conference last year, which was initially to be held in June, but was postponed after the Israeli invasion of Iran.
Leaders at the conference say the move could prove to be a decisive turning point in the end of peace and occupation in the region.
